Questionnaire for Mothers or Carers

Zig Zag Young Women’s Resource Centre is undertaking a survey with mothers/female carers residing in Queensland whose child has experienced sexual abuse.

The purpose of the survey is to gain greater insight and understanding on how support services in Queensland can better meet the needs of mothers whose children have been victims of crime. Child sexual abuse is not just a traumatic event for the child; it is also a devastating and life changing experience for mothers and other family members. Zig Zag Young Women’s Resource Centre (Zig Zag) is aware that there are very few specialist support services available in Queensland to assist mothers following the abuse of their child.

We hope to hear from mothers directly about what has been helpful or would be helpful especially during difficult times e.g. when first learning of the abuse;
during legal proceedings (Criminal Law or Family Law); and in managing the continuing, long-term impacts of child sexual abuse on mothers and their families.

We would like to ask you to assist us in promoting this survey with interested others/female carers in Queensland.

Please find attached survey/questionnaire that includes information on:
• The purpose of the survey;
• How the information provided by mothers/female carers will be used;
• How we will ensure confidentiality and anonymity;
• Contact details if mothers/female carers would like to talk with someone at Zig Zag about this survey; and
• A list of further information resources and support services.

The survey will be open until the 31st of December 2011 (three months).

A big thank you for all who can assist us with this.
